The resulting gas is then mixed with oxygen to produce a thin, high-temperature flame.<\/p><hr data-start=\"1661\" data-end=\"1664\" \/><h6 data-start=\"1666\" data-end=\"1681\"><strong data-start=\"1670\" data-end=\"1681\">QUALITY<\/strong><\/h6><p data-start=\"1683\" data-end=\"1834\">The quality of calcium carbide is always defined by the amount of acetylene gas it produces when 1 kg of carbide reacts with water, measured in liters.<\/p><hr data-start=\"1836\" data-end=\"1839\" \/><h6 data-start=\"1841\" data-end=\"1871\"><strong data-start=\"1845\" data-end=\"1871\">HAZARD CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/h6><p data-start=\"1873\" data-end=\"1998\">Calcium carbide is considered a hazardous substance due to its tendency to react readily with water, producing acetylene gas.<\/p><p data-start=\"2000\" data-end=\"2137\">In case of fire, <strong data-start=\"2017\" data-end=\"2037\">do not use water<\/strong> as an extinguishing method. Use <strong data-start=\"2070\" data-end=\"2128\">dry chemical powder, dry sand, or dry sodium carbonate<\/strong> instead.<\/p><p data-start=\"2139\" data-end=\"2326\">The greatest hazard is moisture contact, so special care must be taken during storage and transportation. Call a doctor, preferably an ophthalmologist.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3191\" data-end=\"3265\"><p data-start=\"3193\" data-end=\"3265\"><strong data-start=\"3193\" data-end=\"3207\">Ingestion:<\/strong> Do not induce vomiting.
